Description
A refined liqueur set in Bohemian red crystal “cased” over clear crystal, with engraved decoration of landscapes and scrolling foliage. Spherical decanter with eight matching glasses.
A spherical decanter with handle and ball stopper, accompanied by eight glasses, in red crystal cased over clear crystal. The engraved decoration — a stag, landscapes, scrolling foliage — reveals the colourless crystal beneath the red layer.
This technique made Bohemian glass famous in the 19th century, from the Biedermeier period onwards: a thin layer of coloured glass is applied over the crystal, then wheel-engraved. Decoration featuring stags, castles and forests was much admired and was also brought home as souvenirs from the spa towns.
