Description

Decorative faience candlesticks.

A pair of two-branch faience candelabra, decorated with gilt cherubs, butterflies, green foliage in relief and blue friezes heightened with gold.

The Gien faience factory was founded in 1821 by the Englishman Thomas Hall in the former Minim convent on the banks of the Loire, to produce fine earthenware “in the English manner”. Awarded prizes at the Expositions Universelles, it is renowned for its decoration inspired by the Italian Renaissance.

A handsome pair for a festive table or a mantelpiece.
