Description

An Art Deco inkwell in glazed porcelain.

An octagonal inkwell in glazed porcelain, decorated with pink ribbons and black roundels edged in gold, with its central ink pot.

Camille Tharaud (1878–1956), a Limoges porcelain maker, took over and modernised a manufactory in 1920. His great innovation was to incorporate colour into the glaze itself rather than painting it on the surface, which gives his Art Deco pieces their deep, brilliant colours.

A handsome desk object, emblematic of the elegance of the 1930s.
