Description

An Impressionist seascape animated by sailing ships.

An animated harbour scene: tall sailing ships at the quayside, small boats on the water and the façades of the port, bathed in a golden light reflected on the surface of the water.

Le Havre holds a special place in the history of painting: it was from a window overlooking its outer harbour that Claude Monet painted “Impression, Sunrise” in 1872, the work that gave Impressionism its name. This canvas belongs to that tradition of bright, freely brushed marine paintings.

It is presented in a wide gilt frame.
