Description
A naturalist landscape depicting a tree-lined river.
A naturalist landscape in oil on canvas: a tranquil river lined with trees in autumn foliage beneath a cloudy sky, with a small figure enlivening the bank.
The composition belongs to the tradition of French landscape painters of the second half of the 19th century who, in the wake of the Barbizon School, painted the countryside and woodland interiors from nature, in a softened light.
The painting is presented in a giltwood frame richly carved with scrolling foliage, which complements the atmosphere of the canvas perfectly.
