Born in Ajaccio in 1931, Marcel Corticchiato taught fine art in Corsica. His painting, associated by critics with a “Mediterranean Fauvism”, evolved towards an increasingly marked simplification of form, to the very borders of abstraction.
Les Baux-de-Provence, a village perched on a rocky spur of the Alpilles, lends itself particularly well to this interplay of masses and colours. The work, signed and dated lower, is presented in a mount within a wooden frame.
