Description
Oil on canvas depicting a lively Oriental street scene at the foot of a minaret surrounded by palm trees. A luminous and finely detailed composition.
A sunlit lane leads towards a white minaret rising among palm trees. Along the way, life unfolds: a camel driver, a laden donkey, men seated in the shade of the wall.
The painting belongs to the Orientalist tradition, which made street scenes, white architecture and the light of North Africa among its favourite themes. The contrast between the deep blue of the sky and the ochres of the ground gives the composition its luminosity.
Signed lower right, it is presented in a gilt frame with a slip mount.
