Description

Large original colour lithograph, signed and numbered 130/150.

A large original colour lithograph by Sakti Burman, signed by the artist and numbered 130/150, from an edition limited to 150 copies. Two female figures with classical profiles, an arcaded building and an ultramarine ground scattered with golden motifs: the artist’s dreamlike world in a single image.

Born in Bengal in 1935, trained at the Government College of Art in Calcutta and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he settled in 1956, Sakti Burman blends Indian mythology with the European tradition. His “marbled” surfaces, which give his images the look of ancient frescoes, make his work instantly recognisable; he is one of the great names of modern Indian art.

The work is presented framed under glass, with a cream mount that sets off its golden tones.
